The Founder

Meet Jim Bathurst.

RN · BSN · MHA · MBA

Three decades of healthcare leadership. One belief — people deserve more than ten-minute appointments.

Jim is the founder of Holistic Haven Advisory Group. He brings more than thirty years of healthcare leadership, nursing experience, and operational expertise to a practice built on a simple idea — that the hardest moments in life and work deserve a guide who has actually walked those rooms.

The Story

From Navy Enlisted
Basic Training
to the Boardroom.

Jim's career didn't start in a corner office. It started as an enlisted Navy Yeoman, doing the work — and learning very young that being present for someone in a hard moment matters more than any title or credential.

The Navy saw something. He was selected for the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program — one of fifty-five chosen from across the entire force in 1998. The University of North Florida saw something too: one of thirty-six accepted from 220 applicants into their nursing program in 1998. He earned his BSN, served as a commissioned naval officer, and then spent the next two-plus decades building a healthcare leadership career.

He's led teams inside hospitals, ACOs, and full-risk medical groups. He's built and executed the strategic plans behind award-winning patient care programs supporting HEDIS and Stars quality initiatives.

But somewhere along the way, Jim noticed something that bothered him.

For all the executive systems, all the data, all the value-based payment models — the people inside those systems were still being rushed. People with real questions weren't getting time. Families facing the hardest conversations of their lives weren't getting guidance. Mid-career professionals were navigating massive transitions — a parent's illness, a job change, a major purchase, a difficult conversation they'd been avoiding for years — entirely on their own.

So he built Holistic Haven.

In Jim's words

The best leaders I worked with in the Navy had one thing in common — they were present. They listened before they spoke. That's still my job, just in a different uniform.

Everything I do today is rooted in what those years taught me: clarity saves time, structure saves people, and presence saves teams. I learned early that leadership isn't about rank or volume — it's about creating conditions where people can think clearly, act confidently, and feel supported while they do hard things.

Across the Navy, federal service, and decades in healthcare, one truth kept showing up: most problems aren't capability problems, they are clarity problems. When expectations are vague, priorities compete, or communication breaks down, even the strongest teams start to drift. But when leaders are intentional — when they slow down, listen deeply, and align people around what matters — everything accelerates.

My work now is simply an extension of that belief. I help leaders cut through noise, build systems that support their people, and create environments where well-being and performance reinforce each other instead of competing. I've seen what happens when organizations run on burnout and ambiguity, and I've seen what happens when they run on clarity, trust, and disciplined execution. The difference is night and day.

So, whether I'm coaching an executive, shaping strategy, or helping a team reset its culture, my approach stays the same: be present, listen first, and build from the human out. That's the uniform I wear now — one stitched from experience, service, and the conviction that leadership done well changes everything.

What Jim Does

Not your doctor.
Not your therapist.
The person who sits with you.

Jim and his very selective small team work one-on-one with individuals and families navigating the moments that matter — life and medical conditions, career transitions, the senior life questions adult children face about aging parents, major purchases that affect a family for a generation, business decisions, and the difficult conversations most people put off until it's too late.

He and his team are not your doctors. He's not your therapist. He's the person who sits with you, asks the questions nobody else is asking, and helps you find the clarity to make the decisions that are yours to make.

How Jim Works

Four commitments
we make to every client.

Every engagement — whether a single seminar, a personal coaching arc, or a strategic consult — is held to the same four standards. They are how we earn the next conversation.

I

Empowerment, not prescription

We start from the assumption that you already know what you want. Our work is to give you the room, the structure, and the questions to make it visible.

II

Evidence-based guidance

Coaching grounded in research, not slogans. We bring frameworks and structure to bear on the decision in front of you.

III

Held in confidence

Discretion is the default. Sessions are private; conversations stay between the people in the room.

IV

Outcome-oriented

We measure success in confident, purpose-aligned decisions — not session counts. Engagements end when the decision is yours to own.

Mission

Holistic Haven exists to guide individuals and organizations through life's most pivotal moments with clarity, compassion, and strategic precision. We blend evidence-based insight, financial acumen, and human-centered understanding to help clients navigate business challenges, personal transitions, leadership growth, senior life decisions, and major life choices. Our mission is to transform complexity into confidence — empowering every client to move forward with purpose, resilience, and a clear path ahead.

Vision

We envision a world where people and organizations feel deeply supported and fully equipped to make decisions that honor their values, elevate their potential, and shape a meaningful legacy. A world where uncertainty becomes opportunity, where clarity replaces overwhelm, and where every client — at every life stage — can step boldly into a future defined by intention, well-being, and enduring success.

Outside the Practice

A coastal town.
Three decades.
Same room, quieter now.

Jim is based in Carolina Shores, on the coastal stretch of North Carolina that has been part of his life since the Navy years. After three decades across military hospitals, civilian systems, ACOs, and the slow turn of healthcare toward value-based care, founding the practice was not an encore. It was the same work in a quieter room.

The clients he sits with now are not so different from the patients and families he served before. They are at the same kinds of moments. The difference is the time he gets to spend on each one.
